Hi there once again, welcome back to Kitaro62 Trains Blog.
I’m posting a blog now, which is to share my experience on one of the worst MRT Service Disruption, which happens on the North-South Line (NSL).
First of all, I heard of the MRT Disruption at 5.45pm, when I’m still having dinner. However, it gotten worse since 6pm. So, I left Orchard Rd in a hurry and all the MRT Faregates were closed. Then, I walk to the bus stop along Orchard Boulevard, it seemed to be worst.
To no avail, I rushed down to Orchard Road and grab a bus to either Dhoby Ghaut or City Hall. This is because I needed to rush home.
At Orchard Rd, crowds became so tense that everybody is entering the bus through the back door! I managed to board the arriving bus. However, Orchard Rd seemed to clog up. Many commuters were frustrated (including me) to board the bus as the MRT was down. Commuters were mad and they boarded the bus through the back door.
Most commuters taking bus alighted at Dhoby Ghaut instead. However, I stayed on till City Hall, where I can take the East-West Line (EWL) train home.
At City Hall, I’ve seen train stabilised at the NSL platform as NSL was suspended at the time being. Staff announcement keep telling commuters to take the free Shuttle bus. I took a quick video at City Hall, as the NSL aside seem to be quieter.
At Outram Park, the EWL train started to be crowded as well. This is because commuters took North-East Line (NEL) from Dhoby Ghaut. No seats were catered for them. Disruption announcement were played telling everyone that there is no train service between Ang Mo Kio and Marina South Pier Stations.
Once at Jurong East, all trains were terminating at Ang Mo Kio till today, 1352h.
The reason why NSL was totally disrupted, is because the tunnel was flooded between Bishan and Braddell Stations. And also the track fire between Raffles Place and Marina Bay Stations. This caused 1 train to completely stall.
My experience is that frustrating, as I took 2h 30 mins to reach home, instead of the usual 1h. Trains and buses were
SMRT, Please maintain the system well. I don’t want major incident to happen like this again.
